SCHOOL NEXT FRIDAY, MAY 27TH
As you are probably aware there is industrial action planned for next Friday, May 27th, which will affect staffing in Catholic schools.
There will be communication early next week regarding school next Friday and an ‘Intention to attend’ link for families to indicate how many children may be attending. This will provide us with some idea of numbers and how we will then coordinate staff attending.
Thank you for your continued support.
2ND Q & A PARENT/CARER PITSTOP - LEARNING TO READ

ALADDIN JNR - GREAT RESPONSE FROM STUDENTS

We are very fortunate to have the expertise and passion of ‘Got Your Back Productions’ supporting the new Creative Arts Nest, directing and presenting the first major production – Aladdin Jnr.
Many staff members of our parish schools have also placed their names on timetables to support the weekly transport of students to Regional College on a Monday afternoon and provide additional expertise and support in the weekly rehearsals and the final production. It is a very exciting time for our children and schools.

SAFETY AND EASIER ACCESS MEASURE TO SUPPORT OUR CHILDREN
To keep our spaces safe and more easy for students to access just prior to our 3.00pm departure, we will be placing a couple of signs in the alcove out the front of Years 1 & 2 toilet block to ask parents and carers to keep the alcove clear as children need to use the toilets at that time.
MISSION
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FAMILIES
Families are the foundation of every society. Although there is no one-size-fits-all family model, every family should strive to help each other meet their physical and emotional needs. The International Day of Families aims to strengthen family bonds, raise awareness of issues related to families and recognise families as an important unit in society. The first International Day of Families was celebrated on 15th May 1994, and it has been in celebration every year since.
On this day we remember and pray for the members of our own families and for families all around the world. We especially pray for families experiencing hardship, poverty, violence, abuse or displacement at this time. We also pray for our St Peter’s families – giving thanks for their many gifts of life and daily love and praying they will continue to know the blessings of each other and of the God of life.
PARENT PIT STOP Q & A = SUPPORTING READING AT HOME
We look forward to continuing our Parent Pit Stop Q & A, next Thursday, 26th May with discussion and information to support student reading at home. The Pit Stop will include:
- A sharing of parent/carer questions related to children’s reading development
- A short presentation of the way students learn to read at school and some of the changes that have characterised teaching reading more recently.
- Follow up discussion prompted from earlier questions as to the ways parents/carers can assist their children’s reading development at home.
Mrs Leisa Merrick our MSL Teacher will facilitate the session joined by some knowledgeable others for the 'Pit Stop'.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
This term children across the Parish will be preparing for First Holy Communion. This is the sacrament that completes the process of initiation and is when a person can join more fully with other members of the Catholic church by receiving the Eucharist. At St Peter’s, the students in both Years 4 and 5 will be participating in preparation for First Holy Communion.
The students making their First Holy Communion have been invited to attend a Narrated Mass, an experience that offers a deeper insight into the prayers, rituals, gestures, signs and symbols of the liturgy.
The dates of the actual First Holy Communion Masses will be 18th, 19th, 21st, 24th and 26th June at various times. Once all narrated Masses have finished, the families of candidates will receive a link to an online booking form to nominate their preferences for dates to attend a ceremony. Any families who have missed receiving information regarding First Holy Communion should contact Vanessa Denham at St Agnes’ Parish on 6588 7444 or email vanessa.denham@stagnesparish.org.au
LEARNING
LEARNING INTENTIONS AND SUCCESS CRITERIA FOR WRITING AT ST PETER'S
St Peter’s teachers have been working hard to embed Learning Intentions and Success Criteria in their English programs and classroom practice. Using Learning Intentions and Success Criteria is one of the research based High Impact Strategies being employed at St Peter’s. They are prominently displayed in learning spaces and referred to regularly to guide teaching and learning. Teachers collaborate to create Learning Intentions and co-create Success Criteria with students. Students use them to guide their learning and answer the questions…
- WHAT are you learning? WHY?
- HOW are you going?
- HOW do you know?
- HOW can you improve?
- WHERE do you go for help?
- DO YOU ENJOY learning? Why? Why not?
Below are some examples of Learning Intentions and Success Criteria
Being Like Jesus - Jesus was Mindful
May is Mindfulness Month
Jesus was mindful and lived a mindful life. He was mindful of his surroundings and the people in his life and he noticed the little things that others missed. That meant that Jesus was more aware of how others were feeling and could help them more.
Students at St Peter’s are mindful students. They are mindful of others, mindful whilst they are learning and mindful of their own feelings and emotions.
Here is a short video to watch about the benefits of mindfulness for children. This was shared at today’s Assembly.
The wonderful thing about mindfulness is that it can be practised by anyone — even kids — in any place, at any time.
Here are some great mindful activities you can do every day, share with others, or use whenever you are feeling overwhelmed. The students have been trying out different activities over the past fortnight.
Maybe you could pick a couple, try them out for a week, and note what you've learnt about your mental landscape.
- The Name Game
- The Berry Challenge
- The Morning Pages
- Candle Study
- The Stillness Activity
- The Sound Game
Here are some photos of children 'Being Mindful' at St Peter's.

in readiness for our Semester 1 reports!
Parent Portal Login
The Parent Portal is a secure web based application which contains information about the school and your child including calendar, semester reports and NAPLAN results.
If you don’t already have a Parent Portal login it is a simple task to create one ... please see Creating an account in the Parent Portal
For security reasons the username for this account MUST be your email address recorded at the school.
Once an account has been created, parents will be able to access the Parent Portal at anytime via http://parent.lism.catholic.edu.au/ - this link is also available on SZapp as well as our school website.
If you do not have an email address which is known to the school or you have changed your email address or provider please contact the school office to update your details.
For those parents with children in high school (MacKillop/Regional and/or Newman Colleges) you may already be using the Parental Portal. The Parent Portal will show reports for both primary and high school students (ensure your email address is the same at all schools.)
Hard copies of reports will only be provided upon request.
16 Year 6 Students attended the da Vinci Decathlon on Wednesday at St Columba Anglican School.
This is a wonderful enrichment day that requires students to work collaboratively, in teams of 8, to solve and engage in 10 varied disciplines, which include: Science, Creative Producers, English, Ideation, Mathematics, Engineering, Art and Poetry.
Through out the day we had to face challenging tasks that tested our brain skills but were also very fun. All through the day we had to work as a team and rely on each other's skills to help us with certain tasks. We only had a certain amount of time for each task and you had to choose which task you wanted to do in that session. There were also other schools there and they had teams of 8 also. By Harrison Ebbs |

The children had a great day and placed 6th and 7th out of 21 teams - a FANTASTIC achievement.
